Week 2 Reading Reaction #3

After this week's reading I came out with a certain topic stuck in my head. The topic is conflict. According to the book conflict is something that will always be present. No matter how we live or what we do there will always be competing interest or dissagreements. What I enjoyed about this topic is that conflict is not always a bad thing. Conflict can strengthen a bond between two people but likewise can also tear people apart. I am in a relationship myself, and what I find is that conflict can help you realize how badly you want to be with your significant other or how bad you do not want to be with them. I have experienced conflict but we both mutally wanted to be together in the end bc our relationship was more important that the conflict. Some people may realize that the conflct was more overpowering than then the relastionship its self so parting ways is the only solution. I have experienced both outcomes of this certain conflict and find that the book is right about conflict always being there. I have had conflict with my family, random people and even teammates. Over all conflict has served an amazing purpose of solving many issues in my life personally.

Week 2 Reading Reaction #2

Personally I feel that society as a whole takes the non-processing route when it comes to communication , relationships or conflict. This to me is why famous people or people of great importance take extreme caution when in public or speaking to the public because any wrong move, on purpose or not, will be automatically looked at in a certain way. So when it comes to a personal level I try to stay away from a non-process view as much as possible. I do feel though that a non-process view can be used in certain situations that are extreme. If I were to watch a man hit his girlfriend there is no process of if he is a good man or not I will automatically go to bad. So If asked "in what way" do I take non-process view I have to say it all depends on the situation. People do little things that if over heard or seen from a distance could look very wrong but in fact very harmless. Taking a non-process view on situations needs to be done carefully. I could change my thinking by examining the situation as much as i can before jumping to conclusions. Unless I am personally involved I will not know all the details and it is unfair to judge without knowing the whole story.

Week 2 Reading Reaction #1

After reading this week's reading I agree that conflict is an instinctual trait because there are certain emotions in the human experience that create a chemical response and thus may be considered to be conflict. As people have grown throughout time conflict has always been there from fighting over food to fighting over land, humans have always been involved in conflict. However, in some cases the conflict may not be with one another, but with the environment. Loud noises, dead silence and even the fear of not knowing what is around you can create reactions that are necessary for survival and thus create a sense of conflict or a sense of being conflicted. The survival instinct that has developed over thousands of years is a direct result of conflict that is a completely natural experience. This experience has allowed humans to develop responses not only physical but emotional as well. People have learned to cope in ways that call for reflection and communication, thus improving individual relationships and personal experiences.

A Self Introduction

Hello, my name is Andrew Bradshaw but most people call me Drew. I am a senior here at SJSU and looking forward to trying my best to graduate by the end of the this school year. I live very close to campus and do not have to deal with the horrible commute that some students must deal with on a daily basis, but that is besides the point, at least for my first posting. Being that this is an online course and does not meet on campus I do not need to fear getting to class, but I still need tom make sure that I participate in class. I have always enjoyed communications which is why I am majoring in Communication Studies. I have no problem talking in front of large groups of people and I am finally getting use to working online. I find it fun and easy to keep track of my work and stay focused with an online course. I hope to learn many things regarding communication and conflict and I also look forward to working with my fellow classmates. Once I graduate with my degree I hope to go into a career which will allow me to use my capabilities and my skills as a talented communicator.
